New release: sklera 4.4.1

Aug 2025

Playout statistics in the libary & playlists, and recurring events in the Room Manager

Release 4.4.1 contains a large number of bugfixes and tweaks that stemmed from the big changes introduced in release 4.3.1 earlier this year. Naturally we also added new features and extended existing ones to add to our ever growing list of capabilities!

The two most exciting additions to sklera are the ability to add recurring events to the sklera Room Manager directly in the system without having to rely on external calendars, as well as displaying proof of play reports for specific library and playlist elements without having to manually create a report!

Proof of Play

sklera Standard and upwards since long has included a reporting function which enabled you to pull the playback logs of one or all your players. A point of friction that had been repeatedly communicated to us was that finding out how often a specific library item or playlist spot was played back was cumbersome to find out.

Configurable

Thus we added a new function to the library and playlist editor. Once you open an items or spots context menu you'll be greeted by a new option 'Playout statistics'. With this option you can immediately visualize how often the item in question has been played back, and on how many individual players it's been shown.

This chart can be broken down to a hourly view (for any day in the past week) or a daily breakdown (for weekly or monthly views). The data can be accessed up to one year in the past.

Recurring Events

Another point of contention was the ability to create recurring events directly in the Room Manager (or rather, the lack thereof). We've added this option now - completely configurable, with options to have a daily, weekly, monthly or annual recurrence (and appropriate additional options depending on your choice).
Individual events can be edited after the fact - and you'll even be prompted whether to update all events in an event chain or just the edited one!

More new features & fixes in 4.4.1

Tweaks & Features in 4.4.
  • Starting with player version 4.4-54 sklera players now report more detailed warning states. These extended warning states are shown on the screens page, the screen detail page, as well as the incident manager, and give you more feedback on why a specific player is in the orange warning state. Examples for these extended warnings are potentially disconnected displays, connection issues, errors in video playback...
  • The user management was reworked to improve performance and add new filter options
  • Adding websites to the library now saves additional metadata to aid in troubleshooting in case a website has issues on a sklera player
  • The Playlist manager has been extended to show if a playlist has any special settings active (such as random mode, trigger schedules, folder syncs or any permissions applied to the playlist)
  • The event logs are now more easily searchable
  • Advanced Playout: You can now copy existing Playouts including all their playlist and screen selection. Playouts copied this way will automatically be disabled.

Bugfixes in 4.4.1

  • Several small bugfixes for the player preview and program preview that catch certain edge cases introduced with the new SmartFlow mode introduce in 4.3.1
  • Public Custom Values view: the public custom values view could ironically not be seen by users logged in to sklera. This has been remedied so that no matter if you're logged in or not you can access the public custom values URL.
  • Fixed two small problems connected to uploading documents directly into playlists or into folders that had been synced to playlists.
