Six months of intense work lie behind us. A whole bunch of bugfixes and tweaks to existing features (as well as an extensive refresh of a bunch of stuff under the hood) are joined by two new features to the host of abilities sklera offers: Master Layouts, as well as a history function for layouts and playlists!
Master Layouts - Templates with a twist
Loading of template layouts has been a long standing feature of our composer. We put a fair bit of thought how we could build on top of that feature. The answer to that: Master Layouts.
The difference to templates: where a template is simply loading all the widgets and settings into your new layout where you are free to alter and move everything on a whim, Master Layouts are truly linked to your new (or existing) layout. The widgets and settings are added and frozen in place - and every single change you make to the Master Layout will automatically propagate to all linked layouts. This way you won't be on the hunt for that one elusive layout anymore which you need to update with a new master design!
Master Layouts also have the option to lock content permanently on top - much like screen layouts would. Any content you add to derived layouts will never obscure widgets you place in the Master Layout. Combine this with user permissions, and you can set up a system where only select people are able to change the master layouts!
This feature is now available to all our sklera professional users at no extra charge!
Layout & Playlist Histories
The second big feature we've added is a version history for Layouts and Playlists. This exciting change available to all our users.
Now every time you make a change to one of your Layouts and save it, or make changes to a Playlist in a 10 minute time span, a new version is automatically saved.
You'll be able to view this history via a new entry in the Save dropdown menu (Layout composer) or directly as a button while editing playlists. These open a dialog showing the version history of this layout or playlist, and enables you to preview older versions, add a comment to them, or entirely restore an earlier state of your layouts or playlists - all it takes is two clicks!
Note: this list includes a couple of changes and fixes from 4.0.2 which hasn't received its own newspost.
This list, as usual, is only a brief overview - the tweaks and fixes are too numerous to list them all!
