sklera update 3.8.1

Nov 2020

New features, improvements and bugfixes in 3.8.1:

Much has happened since we released 3.7.1

  • New: New player state 'Standby'. sklera Players with operating hours will show a distinct 'standby' icon now instead of being in the orange warning state.
  • New: Linux based ChromeApp players can now set a custom hostname. This is deactivated by default and can be enabled in the device settings. Player software version 3.7.77 or newer required.
  • Playout Management: Screen selection where playouts are played has been changed. You can now mix and match individual screens, screen groups and screen categories instead of being limited to one of the three variants.
  • Displays: Screen Groups now show the number of screens assigned to the screen group, as well as a summary of their states (online/offline/standby etc.).
  • Composer: Custom CSS and JavaScript code can be added to Layouts now, and every widget can receive a custom classname.
  • Composer: YouTube videos can now be embedded into Layouts.
  • Dynamic Weather Data: Players can now play out weather data dynamically based on the ZIP code and country.
  • Policies: Added ability to define a policy for a screen group as a whole.

Bugfixes & Tweaks:

  • Composer: The preview function now attempts to automatically select the correct aspect ratio for any given layout.
  • Playlists: Playlist previews now save the last selected preview aspect ratio. Additionally added support for 32:9 and 48:9 Ultrawidescreen setups.
  • Playlists: Files uploaded via a playlist (whether via drag and drop or via the media picker) are now organized into their own folder in the media library. You'll find the files in the Uploaded via Playlist folder, in a subfolder bearing the name of the Playlist.
  • YouTube videos can now show embedded subtitles. To do this, edit the spot in the playlist and select the option. NOTE: This does only work with videos which have embedded subtitles. The automatically generated subtitles by Google will not show. Player software version 3.7.175 or newer required.
  • Displays: Video Walls and Sync Groups now have their Master Display marked with a star.
  • Display Details: Extended general information by Custom ID and Description if those fields have been filled.
  • Tweaked the Color pickers to sort any custom colors to the top/front of the list.
  • Display settings - operating times: Holidays can now be picked as a date range instead of having to manually pick every single day.
  • Playout Management: Extended the overview table. Validity times are now explicitly shown, and the table is sortable by whether a playout is currently active or not. Assigned playlists can be shown via mouseover
  • Bugfix: Composer - Fixed an issue where Layout content could cover interface elements
  • Bugfix: Composer, Text Editor Widget: Fixed a bug where having multiple editors open and closing one would erroneously trigger editor shortcuts when typing.
  • Bugfix: Composer, Text Editor Widget: Fixed a bug when applying text colors.
  • Bugfix: Library: Fixed a bug that omitted the upload date of an element from the list view
  • Bugfix: Library: Fixed a bug where elements uploaded by others, then assigned to you could not be deleted by you.
  • Bugfix: Playout editing: Fixed a problem where screen groups were mistakeningly saved as screens in the playout, causing errors to be thrown. The actual screens were unaffected.

A preview of things to come...

Some big overhauls are coming.

These past months we have spent a lot of time rebuilding some of our backend systems to accomodate future expansions. One of these overhauls concerns the user permissions: In a future release we will be moving away from the predefined user roles like 'manager', 'uploader', etc. to a more granular permissions system which will allow Channel Managers and Administrators to more precisely define which user can access what functionality. This is a feature we've wanted to add for a long time, and it's finally happening. While it's not quite ready for prime time yet we're excited for the possibilities it will enable and hope to have it in your hands early next year!
